On December 2, Team Matson participated in “Build a Box” as part of the annual Bundle Boxes event, where airmen and volunteers decorate Bundle Boxes in support of Operation Christmas Drop 2023 at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam.

The tradition began in 1952 when a B-29 Superfortress aircrew saw islanders waving at them from the Micronesian island of Kapingamarangi, 3,500 miles southwest of Hawaii. In the spirit of Christmas, the aircrew dropped a bundle of supplies attached to a parachute to the islanders below, giving the operation its name. Operation Christmas Drop is the Department of Defense’s longest-running humanitarian airlift operation which consists of packaging and delivering donated supplies such as food, fishing equipment, school books and clothing to more than 20,000 islanders across 56 remote islands throughout the Pacific.
