Dropping Off Your Car With Matson
Delivery to a Matson Port Facility
NOTE: An auto shipment booking is required prior to delivery of your vehicle to Matson.
Take your vehicle to the Matson Port Facility (see maps and hours of operation below). We recommend arriving at least 30 minutes prior to closing.
At the Matson port facility you must provide the following:
- Driver’s license
- Matson booking number
At the Matson Port Facility please leave a set of keys for the ignition, trunk, gas tank, and any other locking compartment. If you have an electric car, please leave the charging cable in the vehicle.
Please Note: The Department of Agriculture inspects all compartments of your vehicle. All compartments must remain unlocked and accessible for inspection. Failure to do this may result in delay in the movement of your vehicle. Your keys will accompany your vehicle to its port of discharge.
Hawaii to Mainland - Legal Requirements
**NOTE: Only vehicles shipping from Honolulu, Hilo, Kahului, or Nawiliwili to the U.S. Mainland ports of Tacoma, Long Beach, or Oakland are subject to Hawaii DOT regulations.
**Auto shipments to/from Hawaii through Tacoma have been suspended. If you have an existing booking and have not yet delivered your vehicle to us, please contact our Customer Service Center at 1-800-4MATSON for further information.**
The following documents and your Matson booking number must be emailed to your port of loading prior to vehicle drop-off.
- Current title
- Current registration
Please include the front and back of the original title and registration documents.
If someone other than the registered owner delivers the vehicle, the customer must provide a photocopy of the owner's ID as well as a notarized letter of authorization from the registered owner(s) authorizing shipment.
If a lienholder is named on the title or registration, a letter from the lienholder authorizing shipment from Hawaii, Guam, Saipan, or Micronesia is required. The letter from the lienholder does not have to be notarized.

In addition to Matson required documentation, United States Customs and Border Protection requires all automobiles entering the United States to complete the Importer Security Filings 10+2.

* Kahului allows two days of free storage. Please note if a vehicle is delivered to the Kahului terminal on Monday or Tuesday of the week of the barge sailing, the terminal will charge a storage fee of $6.88 per day. If the vehicle is dropped off on Wednesday or Friday of the barge sailing, the terminal will not charge a storage fee.
